My Teacher’s Assistants
Advanced students that show an interest in teaching and assisting can apply for a TA position with me. TA’s learn about different teaching techniques while having the opportunity to explore their own approaches to piano curriculum. I created this program to help further expand collaboration in the studio and give students every opportunity to grow as musicians and leaders.
Sylvia Lidsky
Hi! My name is Sylvia Lidsky and I am currently a senior at The College Preparatory School. I’m 17 years old and I have been playing piano on and off for almost my entire life. However, I’ve been consistent on the piano over these past five years taking lessons from Olivia. I mostly like playing jazz and sometimes classical, but it’s always fun to find sheet music for some of my favorite songs and try to play them. I started helping out as a TA in the Spring last year, and I’m so excited that I can continue to help others on their musical journey!
Coming from a family where we all play at least one instrument, music has always been a big part of my life. I love how much fun it can be as well as challenging, and it’s always so satisfying to complete a difficult piece. Playing the piano gives me a creative outlet to relax and also exercise different parts of my brain.
Caelin Duffy
Hi, I’m Caelin, and I am a rising senior at Oakland Technical High School. I’m 16 years old and have been playing piano for about 3–4 years. Before that, I played violin for nine years, and have explored other instruments as well. I enjoy all genres and styles of piano music, but I’m especially drawn to jazz, which I’ve explored by playing songs like Misty by Erroll Garner with Olivia.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember—whether playing, listening, or performing—and I love how it brings people together, from festivals to concerts to small gatherings. I also see music as a powerful form of self-expression, whether through song choices or my own compositions. It allows me to share my thoughts and emotions in a way that feels natural and easy to me.
Without music and my experience playing instruments like the piano, violin, and trumpet, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Music has given me confidence, a creative outlet, and a deep sense of connection with others.
Chloe Hanson
Hi, my name is Chloe Hanson, and I am a Sophomore at Saint Mary’s College High School. Music has always been the main focus in my life. I have been playing piano for around 8 years, and with that time I have learned that piano is something I want to keep in my life forever. I enjoy all musical genres, although I have had the most experience playing classical, and I love anything related to movies such as Disney scores or any recognizable tune.
I have a lot of experience working with kids. From my family, to babysitting, school, and over the summer work. Teaching music requires a patience level that I am prepared for and I understand, mostly because from being a student myself, I know how stressful playing can be at times. Playing for other people is a way to express and communicate what you feel in a way that's much more personal and emotional. Having the opportunity to teach that to other people is amazing, and I hope that everyone can learn to love music as much as I do. I look forward to working with all of you!
